Simcha Layeled
Who Are We?
Simcha Layeled is a non-profit organization, established in 2004, dedicated to improving the quality of life for disabled and seriously ill children, as well as for their families in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and homes. Children with serious illnesses often undergo treatment requiring long, debilitating stays in the hospital. Even when the child returns home, he or she may need assistance. Parents can become overwhelmed by the constant care they must give their child, especially with other children at home. The staff and volunteers of Simcha Layeled go to the hospitals to play with the children, read to them, feed them and help them with their school work. They also visit the homes in order to help the children, prepare meals and assist in therapy treatments.
Our Programs
"Big Brother" Program
The volunteers of "Simcha Layeled" accompany the children during the hospitalization and rehabilitation, as each child is teamed with a volunteer who is dedicated to helping and caring for him/her, both inside the hospital and at home.
Help in Caring for the Children
Parents and other members of the family of the sick child spend most of their time in the hospital, looking for the child. The volunteers of "Simcha Layeled" replace the parents for certain periods of time, in order to enable them to rest and dedicate time to their other children or additional occupations.
Celebrations and Events
One of the goals of "Simcha Layeled" is to entertain the hospitalized children not only during holidays or special events, but especially during the long periods inbetween. Therefore, the volunteers of "Simcha Layeled" organize small-scale parties in the different departments, during the whole year and of course during the holidays. Birthdays, and Bar/Bat-Mizva celebrations are also organized for all children.
Trips and Attractions
Sick children may benefit greatly from fresh air and physical activities compatible which their abilities. "Simcha Layeled" organizes trips, summer camps and other outdoor activities, matching the special needs of the children. These activities contribute to the strengthening of connections between the children and the volunteers, and between the children themselves. In some cases the medical staff also participates. This is also another opportunity for the parents to get some rest from the daily routine.
Medical Clowns
Professional medical clowns entertain children and families in various hospital wards on behalf of "Simcha Layeled". This brings smiles to their faces and takes their minds off their pain and suffering.
Our Volunteers
Much of our organization's activity is possible because of hundreds of volunteers that regularly assist us with the children. From students to adults, our volunteers come from all parts of society. They receive thorough training before the beginning of their work, and close guidance throughout it. If you wish to help us help the children and take part in the wide range of available activities, please fill out the volunteering form, and we will be happy to contact you.
